The St. Vital Montessori School follows the methods and principles of education by Dr. Maria Montessori. Dr. Maria Montessori believed that children have a need to master and gain competency in dealing with their environment and the best ways to meet that need is through the senses. The senses are the pathways and key to all intellectual growth.
Our Montessori classroom is laid out in an open area concept. All furnishings and equipment are visible and easily accessible to every child. The specially designed Montessori equipment helps to aid the child in the development of their coordination and sensorial abilities. Every child is provided complete freedom to work and learn within defined limits of discipline. Each child receives the teachers’ guidance and direction as is necessary.
Each child is treated as a unique individual with rights for love, respect and quality care. The child will have optimal experiences for physical, social, emotional and intellectual growth. The child will be encouraged to develop creativity, self-confidence and a positive self-image. He/she will have opportunities to learn to make choices and decisions, to solve problems and to become an independent, capable thinker.
Since children are active learners, they are entitled to a safe and enriched environment where they can explore their surroundings. The ability to learn will be fostered so that learning and growth are a fun process!
